Sunset Over The Bay

The colour originally named Sundown is now named Sunset Over The Bay

It was recently brought to my attention that the word “Sundown” can carry harmful historical associations.

In the past, “Sundown towns” referred to communities in the United States that enforced racial segregation by excluding non-white individuals through discriminatory laws, intimidation, and even violence. 
While this was more common prior to the 1950s, some of these towns still exist today and the history connected to the term is understandably upsetting.

Although these practices were made illegal under the Civil Rights Act of 1968, it’s widely acknowledged that prejudice and exclusion haven’t disappeared entirely. In many places, people still experience discrimination on a daily basis, which is why awareness and inclusivity remain so important.

The word “Sundown” isn’t something many people immediately recognise as having negative associations ( which is why I didn’t really think twice about using it  ). But in reality it can still be hurtful for some, and I want to be mindful of that.

I truly appreciate this being bought to my attention by a fellow polish lover who took the time to educate me.
My intention is always to create products that feel positive and welcoming to everyone, and never to cause harm or discomfort.
